The woes of ring-wearing

16 Jun

Is it just me, or are engagement rings terribly fragile? Or magnets for impact? Or weapons of terrible destruction?

Since my Sweets placed this bit of metal and carbon on my left ring finger, I’ve discovered I’m constantly swinging my hand into walls, concrete planters along 5th Avenue, or driving my fist into leather couch cushions, or the soft underside of my right arm. I am damaging the ring and myself and my household with this sucker.

Just this morning I had a run-in with the afore-mentioned concrete planter in front of some posh shops on 5th (no, I wasn’t shopping, just walking by on the way to my office in the neighborhood) and was grateful not to have bruised myself, but shocked to find I’d gouged visible scratches in the platinum.

the offending planter, conveniently at hand height. Also, apparently yellow is the accent color of the day!

Ugh! Despair! Does anyone have tips for repair? Is it possible to heal my ring?

And most important, perhaps, any tips about how to adjust to wearing such a valuable object on my otherwise footloose and carefree left hand?
