FOUR MONTHS!

29 Aug

Until the Sweets and I are married!

Sunday mornings with Sweets

1 Aug

It’s a gorgeous day, the sun is shining, August has come in with cooler temperatures, and we’re lounging on the couch, catching up on the dvr, sipping homemade iced coffee, and enjoying the quiet morning. I’m so glad we have a lifetime of this ahead of us.

shoes!!!

29 Jul

The lovely red shoes I posted about have arrived! They were waiting for me at the office this morning, and I ran to get my assistant, who is a shoe diva, and we opened the box together. Oh, they’re lovely. And shoe diva approved.

I tried them on, they fit like a dream, and then I quickly snapped a few pictures before carefully wrapping them back up to wait for my wedding. I think I’ll pull them back out a few weeks before the wedding and wear them around the apartment at night to gently break them in. Hmm, but will I wear them in front of Sweets? More decisions…

do I or don’t I?

23 Jul

So if you’ve noticed, we don’t have a venue just yet. (But wish me luck — we’re looking at something this afternoon!) And so far the only thing I’ve bought for the wedding has been postage. And I’m halfway there on one other little detail. I haven’t been dress shopping yet. I don’t know for sure who is marrying us (that’s a post for another day). But I think I know what I want to be wearing on my FEET on my wedding day.

A thing of beauty. Heel not too high so I can dance all night. Lovely little ruffle. Red.

Dare I order early?

Edited to add: I want to rock the red shoes like this: http://www.omgimgettingmarried.com/2010/07/bright-red-shoes-a-rock-the-frock-shoot-with-chelle/

time out to try to win a gown!

15 Jul

I am not above chasing a contest win, if it’s for something good! So, please allow me to show you these beautiful wedding gowns from Bonny Bridal, and alert you to the contest for a giveaway — gown of choice! Plus-size dresses with style are hard to come by, and I like the look of Bonny Bridal’s gowns.

See? Pretty, right? I think I love the one in the lower left-hand corner, but there are more at the website: http://www.bonny.com/unforgettable–plus-size-bridal-.html. Also, enter the contest, through July 31, at http://bonnybridal.blogspot.com/2010/07/win-dress-from-unforgettable-collection.html.

UPDATE: On August 1st, the day I found I did not win this contest, I also FOUND MY DRESS!  Congrats to the winner!

And then, if you are also a plus-sized (or weight-anxiety-ridden) bride, go and read this beautiful post today on A Practical Wedding. I needed this joy: http://apracticalwedding.com/2010/07/a-way-to-weigh-what-you-weigh-when-you-wed/#more-3985.

my etsy treasury

11 Jul

I’m in an etsy addict phase at the moment, and I made a treasury this morning to collect some of the lovelies I found today. Not the lovelies I want for my wedding decor, mind you, since I don’t want anyone else to buy them, but lovely things nonetheless.

why I’m not blogging at the moment

7 Jul

because I’m having lots of relaxation at my family home in Maine. Yesterday, the Sweets and I spent a full hour just FLOATING off the end of the dock at Parker Pond. And I didn’t take any pictures, and I couldn’t think of any way it was at all related to wedding planning, except that I’m so glad I’m marrying the lovely man floating next to me.
Hope you’re all finding wonderful ways to beat the heat and relax this summer.

three cheers for the red, white, and blue

4 Jul

In honor of the Fourth of July holiday, here’s my little tribute to the colors of our flag.

RED: I’m spending the week in the most beautiful of our states, Maine, with my family, in the house where I grew up. Sweets and I are relaxing, showing Mom the ring (!), grilling, walking the dogs, seeing movies at prices well below those in NYC, and spending time with friends. I’m sure one of the highlights will be partaking of the beautiful food and scenery at The Lobster Shack in Cape Elizabeth later this week. Look at this red goodness! Yum!

I'll be enjoying one of these!

WHITE: Now that I’m engaged and planning a wedding, it occurs to me more than at any other time how thankful I am for my freedom to marry. My marriage will be an interracial one, and I don’t take it lightly that not very long ago the union would not have been blessed by the laws of the land. We still have some laws against people marrying those they love in this country, however. I’d like to challenge other wedding bloggers to keep this issue of equality in mind and post a White Ribbon badge, available at http://www.whiteknot.org/resources.html, to help spread the word about the ways we can advocate for change in our country. I’m proud to show my White Ribbon over there on the right hand side of the screen.

BLUE:

Bluebird of Happiness from Terra Studios

Life is sweet, tender and complete
When you find the bluebird of happiness.
You will find perfect peace of mind
When you find the bluebird of happiness.
Two hearts that beat as one,
‘Neath a new found sun,
We are in a world that’s just begun,
And you must sing his song, as you go along,
When you find the bluebird of happiness.

Big puffy fluff balls of joy

19 Jun tissue paper pom poms, wedding decoration

No, not puppies, not fuzzy dice, but paper poms! I remember making flowers out of tissue paper in elementary school, but I spotted something like them yesterday that made my harried heart lighten just a little. In the window of a stationary store in Grand Central Terminal, there were these lovely poms of joy:

poms of joy

I’ve seen Etsy sellers like PartyPoms and A Dash of Color who create poms of joy in the colors of your choosing, and I think they’d be great for shower or even reception decorations, depending on the formality of your theme or venue. Or of course they’re very accessible for the DIY Bride.

So happy and exuberant, aren’t they? Has anyone decorated with these recently? Link to your pictures, please!
